Noël approche à grand pas, commence le casse-tête des cadeaux, que choisir, où trouver une idée originale dans nos moyens, j’ai une idée pour vous NOPOTO, voir l’exposition The Color Line au Quai Branly  et prendre une collation dans un joli salon de thé  Les Deux Abeiles ou encore préparer un week-end  à Lyon et découvrir la ville habillée de lumières.

Christmas is fast approaching and the headache of finding presents has already begun–what to choose and where to find an original gift within our means…Well I have an idea for you: NOPOTO (Noël pour tous/Christmas for all), a visit to “The Color Line” exhibit at the Quai Branly Museum, and a cup of tea in a lovely restaurant—or even a trip to Lyon to discover the city adorned with lights.   

• Exposition / Exhibit: The Color Line – Les artistes africains-américains et la ségrégation 

A  l’occasion de cette exposition,  le Musée du  Quai Branly nous montre  une rétrospective très documentée et illustrée par les artistes représentatifs de l’histoire  de l’art Africain-Americain, qu’on ne connaît pas forcément bien . Elle  commence par  une urne fabriquée par une esclave dans les années 1860,  puis des affiches des spectacles “Black Face”  joués par des blancs grimés en noir, les couvertures de “The Crisis – A record of the darker race” , magazine officiel de la NAACP 1910-1915 , le tableau du peintre Henry Ossawa Tanner qui fit un voyage en France, pour terminer  par une grande toile de Basquiat.

In this extensive collection, Musée Quai Branly Jacques Chirac :  is showcasing the entire history of African-American art. Beginning with an urn sculpted by a slave and ending with contemporary artists (including a stunning Basquiat piece), the exhibit spans the entire history of art created by black Americans.

Une très bonne idée Noël approche, et pourquoi pas offrir l’oeuvre d’un artiste ? Nopoto  Noël pour tous offre cette possibilité de rencontrer des artistes, cette année 140 artistes invités,  et de pouvoir acquérir une oeuvre sans intermédiaire à des prix très attractifs.

Since Christmas is coming, why not give the gift of an original work of art? Nopoto’s “Christmas for All” is offering the opportunity to meet artists and to buy one of their works without the obstacle of high prices.

• L’as­so­cia­tion NOPOTO  a vu le jour en décembre 2007 sous l’im­pul­sion de quelques amis qui ont imaginé un projet soli­daire et festif. Le collec­tif, consti­tué majo­ri­tai­re­ment de plas­ti­ciens, s’est engagé par diffé­rentes actions à  donner une visi­bi­lité et appor­ter un soutien concret aux artistes, sans distinc­tion de statuts, d’ori­gines et de géné­ra­tions. Il  a pour voca­tion de favo­ri­ser le lien entre artistes, mais aussi entre les artistes et le public, de diffu­ser l’art contem­po­rain et de le rendre acces­sible au plus grand nombre. 
• NOPOTO came to light in December 2007 under the impetus of several friends who imagined a project that both promotes solidarity and festivity. The collective, made up of mostly visual artists, pursues various projects that provide both visibility and concrete support to artists, no matter their status, origin, or age. Its main goal is to prioritize relationships between artists, but also between artists and the public, and to distribute contemporary art in a more accessible and widespread way.
